Kimono silk furisode with gold embroidery
Kimono silk furisode with gold embroidery
This kimono from the early to mid 20th century has been created in kinsha silk and has been decorated artistically with an abundance of japanese symbols for good wishes, these include stunning chrysanthemum flowers in reds and golds, the designs interspersed with images of pine trees and bamboo symbolising longevity and perseverance, the pine tree lives for many years and the bamboo bends in the wind but never breaks, the image of a stream or river is for continuity or for the future.
This beautiful silk furisode kimono decorated in reds and gold signifies youthful glamour and allure, calmed by the background colour of pale blue, the body is lined in fine off white silk with the sleeve linings being finished in red.
A furisode kimono would be styled for a young unmarried woman for a special occasion and is exemplified by its swinging sleeves which are extra deep.
There are areas with different designs hand painted in gold onto the silk and also exceptional gold embroidered decoration to many of the flowers.
There are five images of a mon, a japanese family crest possibly of Hori or Myoshi origin.
