2 seater Cactus Bench designed and signed by the famous Hermes designer Hilton McConnico. This bench was constructed in steel in the 1990’s and has its original seat pad covered in the distinctive Hermes orange, the fabulous cacti to the backrest have been hand painted in gold leaf and reflect the quality and fun which are both an integral part of Hilton McConnico’s designs.

Hilton McConnico was born in Memphis Tennessee in 1943, working his way through New York to Paris, arriving in 1965 he lived and worked in Paris for the rest of his life.

Working at first in fashion design for famous fashion houses, he then turned to cinema, creating the sets of over 20 feature films including Francois Truffauts “Vivement Dimanche”.

His humorous scenographies filled with fantasy have won him worldwide acclaim and made him one of the most accomplished artists of his generation. His work includes scarf designs and many exhibitions for Hermes for whom he also designed the interior architecture of the Hermes Tokyo and Seoul Museums.

Hilton McConnico’s cactus design here in this rare piece of furniture can be seen reflected in his cactus designs for Daum and his famous rugs and carpets for Toulemonde Bochart. Hilton has won many awards. He designed collections since 1985 for Arthus-Bertrand, Cristalleries de Saint Louis, Daum, Lampes Berger, Point a la Ligne, Toulemonde Bochart, Veronese and others.

Some of his works, among which, are the famous Daum Cactuses and the Chilli Pepper and Arizona carpet designs for Toulemonde Bochart are part of the permanent art collections of a large number of museums across the world.

Hilton McConnico was the first American to have work permanently inducted into The Louvre’s Decorative Arts Collection.

Hilton McConnico sadly past away in January 2018 in his beloved Paris.
